Lutengano Secondary School

The Lutengano Secondary School is a private institution, owned by the Moravian Church in Tanzania - South Province. The school has a long-lasting tradition. It was founded in 1950 as a girls middle school. In 1972 it became an inclusive primary school, so a school which was especially focusing on supporting children with disabilities. It was only in 1982 when it turned into the secondary school that it is still known for today. Most of the buildings also date back to the 1980's, but they were renovated ever since, and new renovation efforts started in July 2019.

Back in the early days of the school, the number of students was very high, due to the fact that it was one of the only private secondary school in the region. In the mid-nineties, up to 1300 students used to get their secondary education at Lutengano Secondary School. The number of students varied across the years, but today around 220 students visit our institution. 

One of our main focuses was always to provide our students with a high quality training. This resulted in the fact that our Form Six students ranked highest in the Rungwe district in 2018. 
Lutengano Secondary School offers training in all levels, from Form One up to Form Six. We are a mixed school of boarding and day-school students and we offer the following streams:
  • Pure Arts
  • Science Stream
  • Commercial Subjects
  • Chemistry, Biology and Geography (CBG)

Facilities

Our various school facilities help facilitate the learning process for our students and aim to provide them with a higher level of convenience in their school life. There are big dormitories available, one for boys and one for girls. The total capacity of the dormitories is around 900. Currently, around 160 students stay there. There is also a Biology Lab, a Chemistry Lab and a Computer Lab with approximately 20 computers and a projector. Our huge dining hall can also be used to organise events that require a lot of space. The renovation work at the school library is expected to be finished in October 2019.
